Overall, I like the movie in that it touches upon a subject that is rarely talked about – a gay attraction for the “elderly.” Of course, in the gay male world, we talk about “daddies” and “sons,” sort of like “bears” and “cubs,” but how often do we hear about “granddaddies” and “grandsons”? This movie is about an 18-year old who is physically attracted to an 82-year old man who could easily be his great-grandfather. You might not identify with this “fetish,” since most gay guys are usually attracted to guys their age or younger, but it is nevertheless a fascinating look at one part of our LGBT family.
Aaah… older gay white men in Asia: What can I say?
As an older gay white man, myself, living in Asia, I speak from my own experiences and over very many years, and that of my friends here. And, of course, these observations can hold true to older gay white men, anywhere in the world, who seek relationships with gay Asian men, (or of Asian descent), anywhere in the world. Of course, there are going to be differences in locales and personalities.
While gay Pinoys are essentially the same as any other gays, dating one can be a bit trickier mainly because of the conservative society we live in which helps explain why not all of us are out of the closet. So, if you plan on or are dating a Filipino, you may need to arm yourself with some knowledge on what to expect and how to do things right. Below are just some of the things that set the gay Pinoys apart:

CHICAGO— If you think listening to the voices in your head is a happy ride to crazy town, try obeying the songs. Now that’s crazy.
But crazy good.
It’s no wonder that working in mizu shobai, the “water trade” or “liquor trade” is a coveted job in Japan. The pay is good…but the work is a bitch. My three months working as a barboy in Tokyo’s gay district Shinjuku Ni-chome was a well paid, but bittersweet experience of what goes on in these closet-sized bars. It was toxic, weird, liberating, and censored – just like Japanese porn.
Openly-LGBT American Congressmen have written a letter to President Obama urging him to remove Brunei and Malaysia as negotiating partners in the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP), a proposed regulatory and investment treaty.
They cite the atrocious anti-LGBT laws in both countries. In Malaysia, LGBT people can be caned and imprisoned for up to 20 years. While in Brunei, the Sharia law allows for punishing gay sex by stoning.
In Japan, where being openly-gay is still largely taboo, starting April 1st 2015, the Tokyo district of Shibuya has granted limited recognition of same-sex partnerships. The recognition allows for same-sex couples to rent apartments together, as well as visit each other in the hospital.
While not as ambitious as legalizing marriage, (no Asian country has yet to do this), as has been accomplished in many Western countries, it is nevertheless seen by most as a major step for the LGBT community in Japan.
Vietnam has become one of Southeast Asia’s most popular travel destinations. And certainly many gays are among those who visit this country. Most gay visitors, however, see Vietnam as only another Thailand. But I have to go directly to the point here: Vietnam is…
